An essay on the evaluation Tesco’s Information Systems and digital transformation
Introduction
The 21st century has seen a tremendous shift in the business world where businesses are now seeking to be service oriented as opposed to industry oriented. Such shift in the current business environment is caused by a number of factors that have characterized the 21st century marketplaces, namely, globalization, governments, changing customer needs and most importantly technology (Bärsch et al, 2019). These factors are increasingly defining the success or the failure of businesses across the world. Technology, for example, has opened up new opportunities for businesses including linking retailers, manufacturers, suppliers and the end consumers. As such, to ensure success, companies are focusing on digital strategies for digital transformation as part of their strategic planning (Hänninen et al., 2019). Tesco, as a multinational retailer is no exception. To have sustained growth today and in the future, it must have digital strategies for digital transformation. Tesco is a United Kingdom multinational retail multinational company that deals in grocery and general merchandises. Tesco was established in 1919 by Jack Cohen in Welwyn Garden city, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom. The company has grown to become the world third largest retailer in the world with operations in more than 10 countries including Hungary, Ireland and Thailand among others (Tesco, 2020). In addition to groceries and general merchandising, Tesco has expanded its business to include financial services, internet services, software, electronics, clothes and retailing of books. This essay explains the need for information systems and digital transformation in the company (Aiello et al, 2020). It also investigates the digital initiatives and the varying digital information systems that Tesco employs to ensure customer engagement and improved service quality. Finally, this essay critically evaluates Tesco’s digital transformation processes and strategy and gives recommendations based on the strategic role of information systems and key aspects of digital transformation.
Information systems (IS) in Tesco
One of the technology transformation that can help businesses is information systems (IS). Information systems refers to a set of interrelated components whose role is to gather data, process it, store it and distribute across the organisation to be used in supporting decision making processes (Pearlson et al, 2019). Information systems entails three activities which enable for efficient production of information, namely, input, processing and output. On one hand, input involves capturing or collecting raw data either from the external environment or internal environment of the organisation. Such data include business problems, opportunities, instructions or any other type of raw data important to the organisation (Laudon and Laudon, 2017)………Click the purchase icon ABOVE to purchase full solution at $20
