Week 6 Discussion: Data Analysis and Results (graded)
This week’s graded topics relate to the following Course Outcomes (COs).
CO 2: Apply research principles to the interpretation of the content of published research studies. (PO 4 & 8)
CO 5: Recognize the role of research findings in evidence-based practice. (PO 7 & 8)
Data analysis is key for discovering credible findings from implementing nursing studies. Discussion and conclusions can be made about the meaning of the findings from the data analysis.
Share what you learned about descriptive analysis (statistics), inferential analysis (statistics), and qualitative analysis of data; include something that you learned that was interesting to you and your thoughts on why data analysis is necessary for discovering credible findings for nursing.
Compare clinical significance and statistical significance; include which one is more meaningful to you when considering application of findings to nursing practice.
According to this week reading, statistical analysis of descriptive data is done to provide a summary of data published research reports. Such data serve as starting point for the reader to begin making decisions regarding strength and applicability of the research as evidence for practice in specific population. (Houser, 2018). I have learned about descriptive analysis is an important first step for conducting statistics analyses because it provides an idea of the distribution of data, helps identify outliers and typos, and enables distinguished associations among variables, thus preparing for conducting further statistical analyses. As with Inferential analysis, in this study, testing of hypothesis and drawing conclusion about a population, based on samples. To make it simple, Inferential analysis aim to draw conclusions about an additional population outside of dataset. In differentiating with Qualitative analysis data, which means to measure something by its quality rather than quantity. Thus, exploring of how something is being describe, work with descriptions, feelings, thoughts, perceptions, and understands motivations and behaviors. The research provides insights into the setting or a problem and generates ideas and hypotheses for later study. Qualitative content analysis is frequently applied to nursing research as it allows researches to determine categories inductively and deductively.
