SIM 421 ORGANIZATIONAL AND SYSTEM LEADERSHIP

SIM 421 competencies addressed organizational and systems leadership, quality improvement and safety, ethical, legal, and resource management concepts, as well as strategies for effective change management and communication in quality improvement and patient safety. The project presented: Addressing staff shortage issues in the ICU. The topic selected is sensitive issues nowadays for many hospitals not only affecting patient safety but also known as the main reason leading to job dissatisfaction, high turn over rate and nurses leaving the profession. What seemed to be an easy fix, like hiring more nurses, turned out to be a big challenge when financial aspects needed to be considered. The project helped to understand the challenges in managing department budget and finances versus managing human resources and patient safety.
