We begin our journey into discovering the new world of research and evidence-based practice (EBP) by exploring our past. After completing the required readings and lesson, answer the following:
- Explain how research has evolved since the Florence Nightingale era.
- Discuss how research and EBP are different; include how you believe research supports EBP for nursing.
- Describe one past/historical unethical breach of research conduct; then, share how you would ensure care of a study participant using one ethical or legal research consideration (guideline/principle)
Solution
Patient care has been constantly evolving since Florence Nightingale made breakthroughs in nursing over 150 years ago. She began the first evidence-based nursing by researching, investigating and recording the conditions of the soldiers and the facility. From there she developed interventions to decrease the mortality rate among the soldiers. Simple nursing interventions such as clean water and medical equipment decreased the mortality rate from 60% to 42% to 2.2% (Karimi et al, 2020). Nursing research today has grown considerably and is more in depth with greater beneficial outcomes for our patients. Now we have research facilities and nurses who specialize in research and developing new methods to care for patients. Florence Nightingale’s research has forever changed how we care for our patients today……….Kindly click the purchase icon above to purchase full solution at $5
