learned from the video that it shows Rob Ocuca, a Native American teenager who is a Pima tribe member and has diabetes. He has been disruptive at school and has been suspended. He arrives at the community clinic for a checkup. The nurse at the community clinic that serves the Pima community learns that Rob’s behavior resulted, in part, from his being teased and bullied. Recognizing Rob’s experience as a common problem for Pima children, the community clinic works with the school and the tribe to develop a community partnership to educate others about the Pima community. Effective collaboration within and between workgroups in an organization can help identify issues that need attention, develop and apply solutions to problems, discover innovations in healthcare administration, improve quality and service, and enhance work-life quality. Also, partnering outside a health care institution, with community-based organizations and leaders, helps you establish trust, build networks, improve public relations with the community, and identify and track information about specific populations and disease epidemiology.
The partnership between the school, community clinic, and the Pima community could: Serve as a way to educate students, their families, and the school staff about diabetes. Create an opportunity for screening for diabetes at the cultural heritage day or other school events. Develop and implement more healthy menus for school children to address eating habits that could contribute to diabetes development.
